How deep should my substrate be?

Your total substrate should come almost to the top lip of your bioactive tray. Your substrate should be arranged as follows:  Start with an approximately one-inch layer of expanded clay pellets for drainage. Add a layer of screen over the clay pellets. Fill your bioactive tray to the top with Leap Living Earth substrate. Top with a thin layer of leaf litter. Your Leap habitat is now ready to plant!
